World Wellbeing Week: Why is the Wellness of your Employees so Important?

This week marks World Wellbeing Week.

For Neon, the focus on the wellbeing of your team is so important as it’s integral to their performance at work - especially during times of stress, concern and unpredictability like we’ve all been experiencing recently.

According to a study conducted by the organisation, Mind ‘at least one in six workers experiences common mental health problems, including anxiety and depression. Our research shows work is the biggest cause of stress in people's lives, more so than debt or financial problems. Stress can stop people performing at their best’.

There are many different factors, which must be considered when it comes to an individual’s wellness. Social, physical, emotional, financial and your career are just a few areas within someone’s life that will affect their wellness and mental health.

By addressing these factors and emphasising the importance of wellness and openness in the workplace, it’ll reassure your employees that they are in a safe space where they can discuss any issues they may have. This will ensure your employees are more engaged, feel healthier in general and are more loyal and committed to your company.

Here are Neon’s top reasons why it’s so important and worthwhile to ensure the wellness of your employees!

They’ll be more engaged

Employees who have emotional and physical health are more likely to be devoted to their jobs. If employees feel supported and appreciated by their employers, they are more likely to go that extra mile as they’ll know their efforts will be recognised and rewarded.

Those who are healthy physically and emotionally are also better equipped to handle the stress of client demands and deadlines. This allows them to be more productive and add to a positive overall working environment.

We use simple techniques such as short feedback surveys to get to the root of how content businesses employees are in the workplace. Simple questions such as, how well do employees feel communicated with, and how do they feel towards their brand will create a better picture to employers.

They’ll take less sick days

When employees are struggling with emotional or physical issues, they tend to call in sick more often.

When you focus on keeping employees healthy and happy, you can expect fewer missed days of work and harder working team members who put all their effort into their day-to-day tasks.

Investing in your team's wellness up front, such as in their working environment, work-life balance, healthy food options, health insurance etc. is an investment in business success and productivity.

They’ll stay with the business for longer

Providing a supportive environment that puts an emphasis on wellness will create healthier, happier employees.

Team this with other benefits such as a good pension, competitive pay and career progression and employees will be encouraged to stay with your company.

Employees who feel their bosses truly care about them as people and not just as workers are much more likely to stay with you for the long haul!
